Mark has been an ABRSM Examiner of grades and diplomas for the past thirteen years, and was appointed to the panel of Trainers in 2012. During this time he has undertaken more than thiry tours to all five continents. Countries visited include: Mainland China and Hong Kong, Singapore, Bangladesh, Napal, Northern and Southern Ireland, India, Turkey, Cyprus, Switzerland, USA, Canada, South Africa, Indonesia, New Zealand, Thailand, Japan, Korea and Scandinavia,

By now. the candidates he has examined, which range from Prep Test to FRSM level, number approximately 20,000. This is an aspect of his work he enjoys greatly, and among his fondest memories would be examining a dozen grade 1 & 2 violin candidates in Calcutta, India, all of whom achieved high distinctions despite having to sleep rough, having travleled from a remote village the previous day.

As an adjudicator for The British and International Federation of Festivals, again since 2003, Mark has been invited to adjudicate festivals in many regions of the UK and abroad. In 2016 Mark will be adjudicating the Chichester Festival, Cardiff EPTA Piano Competition, EPTA Composer's Competition and Singapore Performing Arts Festival. He will be examining in Korea, Japan and USA - also giving a Presentation Tour on behalf of ABRSM in China.

Furthermore, they took it in turns to use the same rather basic instrument for these exams, having also practised and had their lessons on it - quite an impressive achievement, and an example to all of us living in more privileged parts of the world who take for granted an easy access to decent instruments, tuition and sheet music.
