The Poznansky-Tanner Duo - Gillian Poznansky, flute, and Mark Tanner, piano - have been delighting audiences around the world for a number of years with attractive, accessible classical music programmes. They have given many recitals aboard cruise ships (all of the Cunard, P&O and Saga liners), where their inimitable blend of musicianship and good-humoured presentation insures a consistently warm reception. In the UK they have appeared in many venues, with a recent Wigmore Hall appearance and several BBC Radio 3 broadcasts.

GILLIAN POZNANSKY, FLAUTIST

Appearing around the world with pianist Mark Tanner, Gillian is keen to show that it is possible to balance family life with that of a successful performing musician. Alongside a busy duo schedule, Gillian is a freelance orchestral player and teacher. She also examines for Trinity College London, the International Baccalaureate organisation, OCR, AQA and EdExcel Boards.

A CD entitled 'Undiscovered Islands', the music of Graham Lynch (PRCD 1024), was released by Priory Records n 2010 and has been featured several times on BBC Radio 3's 'Late Junction' programme, hosted by Verity Sharp.

A CD (PRCD1113) featuring five Sonatas for flute and piano by JS Bach was released on the Priory label in February 2014. It was recorded at Potton Hall, Suffolk, in August 2013 and contains the following works:

Sonata in G mnor

Sonata in B minor

Sonata in E minor

Sonata in E major

Sonata in C major

JS Bach's Sonatas for flute & piano are firmly implanted in the repertory, notwithstanding the fact that three of them (G minor, C major and E flat major) are of questionable authorship.

Graham Lynch lives in Penzance, Cornwall, and his music has been performed all over the globe a host of revered performers. Gillian and Mark have given premieres of several pieces by Lynch in the past few years, and their concerts onboard cruise ships frequently feature Graham's tangos 'Pajaros del mar', 'Milonga Azure' and 'The Stolen Branch'. The music on this disc is a mixture of solo piano, solo flute and the two instruments together - an intoxicating blend of Graham's Classical and Tango styles.

REVIEWS

"A performance of truly fine musical expression from Gillian Poznansky and Tanner. This CD contains performances of genuine musical insight...an utter delight...these gifted musicians convey the depths of this magnificent music...One's interest is fully held by the quality of the playing. Our attention is caught and held from the opening bars, and the expressive majesty of this music is admirably revealed."

INTERNATIONAL RECORD REVIEW, JUNE 2014

"Expertly played by Gillian Poznansky and Mark Tanner"

GRAMOPHONE, DECEMBER 2009

"Flautist Gillian Poznansky also responds to its melancholy. Her tone is clear and never shrill, and her playing is flexible...Mark Tanner's smooth, dark piano sound still admits many shades of colour and light, and lends the music the sensitivity it deserves."

INTERNATIONAL RECORD REVIEW, DECEMBER 2009 (AN IRR 'OUTSTANDING' DISC OF THE MONTH)

"The performances are excellent. This is quite a find."

PAN MAGAZINE, BRITISH FLUTE SOCIETY, DECEMBER 2009

"The playing is consistently good from Tanner and Poznansky; these performers play with a sense of understanding of the music, providing an emotional context and atmospheric mood with a good sense of communication with the listener."

CARLA REES, MUSICWEB INTERNATIONAL

"Delicate, subtle and mesmerisingly impressionistic music...The flute in Mediterranean is fruitily played and recorded

- apt in a work of flighty warmly-bathed fantasy...superbly done by Poznansky."

ROB BARNETT, MUSICWEB INTERNATIONAL

"...so sensitively performed"

CLASSICAL MUSIC MAGAZINE, OCTOBER 2009

"...mesmerizingly played by Gillian Poznansky...played by Mark Tanner with a bewitching sensitivity

for colour and atmosphere."

INTERNATIONAL PIANO MAGAZINE, OCT/NOV 2009

“The playing by both the pianist and the flautist sounds excellent...sympathetic to the mind of the composer"

JOHN FRANCE, MUSICWEB INTERNATIONAL

A fine recording by Pianist Mark Tanner and Flautist Gillian Poznansky. They’re a balanced partnership who deploy careful, sensitive tone colours to expose the poignant, elegiac delicacy of Lynch’s music.”

INTERNATIONAL RECORD REVIEW

The Duo gave the world première of ‘Quicksilver’ by John McLeod at Wigmore Hall, and in the company of the composer Mark premièred, recorded and edited a sizeable commissioned piece entitled ‘Haflidi’s Pictures’ all over the UK, as well as live on BBC Radio 3.

“Playing of flair and spontaneity”

THE SCOTSMAN

Indeed, Mark has taken an especial interest in contemporary British music, having recorded much hitherto neglected repertoire by York Bowen, Constant Lambert and Peter Wishart for Priory Records, as well as commissioned and previously unrecorded pieces by leading British composers, such as Graham Fitkin, John McLeod, Philip Martin, Mervyn Burtch, Colin Decio, Frederick Stocken and Graham Lynch:

“Tanner’s performances are magnificent. Most pianists would give an arm and a leg, or at least a finger, to achieve his sumptuous sonority and seamless legato..such enviable breadth and poetic commitment”
